I
have played in 100+ degree weather in the sun, I have played when it was
snowing, but this is the first time that I have played tennis during a small tornado.
It was in the direction of Cypress Lakes and moved toward Jacksonville.
You can see remnants of the storm in the first video. Apparently it did little
or no harm.
However, the tornado had nothing to do with the buzzards attacking a bald eagle making it drop a large fish on the tennis court. The fish made a loud "ploop" when it landed and stopped play. That was also a first and that happened on Thursday.
Bob Stone played earlier in the morning so he missed the "photo op".
Mike will be leaving next week for South Carolina before heading to Michigan. Isabel and her husband, John, are going on an extended vacation and will not be back until the middle of June.
This is weekend that Ted is moving to his abode in St. Augustine. He will not be as available for tennis until he gets settled nor does plan on checking the court for puddles early in the morning.
Otto will be taking over the guard house for a week or so. We are going to be short of tennis players for a while. If you are available for tennis, check with Hank to make certain that we will have enough players. Life is hard in the high speed lane.

It
was warm and slightly overcast morning without wind. The clouds blocked the sun
so that the players on the North side of the court could see the ball. Not a
good day for picture taking. To see the results, click on the photo.
On Tuesday, January 3, 2012 at one o'clock, the temperature was around 40 degrees. This is the way to start the tennis season in sunny Florida. Isabel furnished the Puerto Rican refreshment and snacks. She also furnished the balls.
Several of our Coquina Crossing tennis player participated in the "ST. AUGUSTINE SENIOR DOUBLES TENNIS TOURNAMENT" held at Treaty Park on Saturday, November 5, 2011. The "double elimination" tournament was for tennis senior players living in St. Johns County. The event was sponsored by MTA and co-sponsored by the SJC Parks and Recreation Department.
The team of Ted Fontaine and Deb Trail made it to the semi-finals. Congratulations! They were eliminated by the team that won First Place in the Consolation Bracket.
The team of Ann Smith and Jessie Rick was eliminated in the quarter finals by the team that won First Place Swafford and Judith Harmon. Patrick teaches tennis at St. Augustine South. Last year Ann Smith was partnered with David Hudson and they won First Place in their age bracket.
Congratulations to the Coquina Crossing tennis players for their performance in the tournament.

The Coquina Tennis Group is under the direction of Ted Fontaine and meets every
Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday at 8:30am, weather permitting, at the Club House
tennis courts.
We welcome all level of players. If there are more than four players, we rotate
players by "Server Out". That way, extra players do not have to wait a complete
set before getting to play and everyone gets to play with everyone. If you or
your guests of Coquina Crossing want to play, come to the tennis courts with
your tennis racquet.
